Every once in a while Skip Horween pulls something out of the tannery that feels less like leather production and more like an experiment that somehow escaped the lab.

These Marbled Horween Shell Cordovan Mr. Grippers come directly from those moments. Small batches of shell where dyes collide and swirl across the surface in ways that even the tannery can’t fully predict. Deep greens. Smoky shadows. Unexpected flashes of color hiding beneath the surface.

No two are even remotely alike. The marbling moves across the shell like weather patterns. Some pieces carry dramatic swirls while others settle into quieter layers of tone and shadow. Each one feels like its own strange little work of leather art.

Pieces like this are extremely hard to come by, even for us. When Skip releases them, they disappear almost as quickly as they show up. So when we’re lucky enough to get our hands on them, we turn them into something small, simple, and built to last: a Mr. Gripper.

A little piece of Horween experimentation that will ride along on your bag for years to come. And once these are gone, that’s it. The tannery has already moved on to the next strange idea.

Horween’s most expensive leather, Shell Cordovan, is crafted through a meticulous six-month process: slow vegetable tanning, hot stuffing with oils and waxes, and hand-polishing to perfection. The result? A leather celebrated worldwide for its rich sheen, durability, and velvety hand feel — so comfortable, you might not want to put it down.

Skip Horween himself selected this Shell for us, and we knew it had to become the Mr. Gripper. A small, timeless luxury that lets more people experience the magic of this rare leather. But as with all rare treasures, availability is fleeting. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

(These shells cost over $200 a piece. So this Limited Edition run understandably needs to be priced accordingly.)
